Biblical Studies Certificate

Certificate in Biblical Studies | Taking the Certificate | Certificate Courses

The Certificate in Biblical Studies enables students to explore biblical texts in their historical and literacy contexts, various forms of biblical interpretation as well as contemporary discussions of biblical issues. Students will also have the opportunity to explore biblical and other related texts, such as:
  • the recently discovered Dead Sea Scrolls, which have enriched our understanding of Judaism about the time of Jesus, Paul and the formation of early Christianity
  • the Gnostic writings, which reveal a daring alternative form of Christianity to the one that succeeded
  • writings from the Apocrypha and Pseudepigrapha literature that was contemporary to the works of the bible, but not included in it
Generally, students pursuing this Certificate are interested in the historical and literary study of the bible, biblical interpretation, and the evolution of Christianity and contemporary issues. Students represent a varied cross-section of individuals such as interested lay people, church workers and candidates for the ordained ministry, church school teachers (from a variety of Christian denominations), and students interested in the Humanities, to name a few.
