York Grants

The following are standing deadlines for internal (York) grants.   York Research fillable and non-fillable forms for these grants, are listed in the link below.

York Ad Hoc Research Fund

Deadlines: March 15, June 15, September 15, and December 15.
Objective: To provide full-time faculty members and librarians with travel grants to conferences at which a substantial presentation is being made.
Value: Up to the cost of return minimum airfare.
Duration: Not applicable.
Guidelines and Form

SSHRC Grant in Aid Travel Fund

Deadlines: 
February 1:  (for travel during March 1 to July 31)
May 1:  (for travel during June 1 to October 31)
August 1:  (for travel during September 1 to February 29)
November 1:  (supplemental competition for invitations received after August 1 to present at conferences from November 1 to February 29)

Objectives: To assist with the cost of travel to attend conferences outside Canada or the U.S.
Guidelines and Form

SSHRC Small Grants Program

Deadlines:   October 31 and March 31.
Objective:  To provide support to full-time faculty members and professional librarians in the humanities and social sciences for pilot studies, young faculty, 'opportunistic' small projects, to round out work on larger projects, and projects not readily funded elsewhere.
Value:        Up to $4,000.
Duration:   One year.

Educational Leave

The purpose of the Educational Leaves programme is to provide opportunities for tenured or tenure stream faculty and continuing appointment employees to take Educational Leaves for approved plans of study. (N.B. CLAs are not eligible).

Leave Fellowship (Sabbatical)

A Leave Fellowship Fund (Article 19.30 of the YUFA Collective Agreement) of $160,000 is available to provide peer-adjudicated additional grants of up to 10% of academic base salary to sabbaticants. The grants shall be subject to the conditions set out in Article 20.17 (b) of the YUFA Collective Agreement.

Teaching-Learning Development Grants

Awards from the Teaching-Learning Development Fund will support projects which have the potential to make significant curricular or methodological contributions to teaching and learning at York, or which enable faculty to enhance their own teaching skills. Proposals are invited for projects relating to either undergraduate or graduate teaching.

Release-Time Teaching Fellowships

These fellowships are intended to provide recipients with the opportunity to develop innovative teaching and learning projects or to enhance their own teaching skills (as opposed to disciplinary competence), when such development or enhancement could not take place in the context of a full teaching load.

Research Development Fellowships

The Research Development Fellowship Programme is open to tenured faculty and librarians with continuing appointments with at least five years full-time service at York. In keeping with the expressed intent of the Programme, priority will be given to those nominations demonstrating that heavy teaching or professional responsibilities and/or service to the academic community or other relevant factors have delayed the completion of a project.


York Incentive Grant

Deadlines: March 1, August 1, and December 1.
Objective: To provide support to defray costs that are essential to the preparation of a successful grant applications, such as those associated with assembling collaboration teams. It is intended to assist in the quest for large-scale initiatives involving external funding of at least $75,000. These grants are not awarded to support the preparation of applications for the usual programs of research support (e.g., CIHR, NSERC, and SSHRC).
Value: Approximately $5,000.
Duration: Eighteen months.

CUPE Funds

Grants for York's contract faculty (CUPE 3903)

Conference travel grants and research grants are now available for contract faculty (CUPE 3903). Fund deadlines are March 1, June 1, and October 1.

Conference travel grants
Objective: to support contract faculty members who:

  1. are giving papers;
  2. have been asked to give commentaries of to chair sessions; or
  3. are attending conferences.

Eligible expenses include travel, registration, accommodation and subsistence.
Value: Up to $2,000
Duration: No more than one grant per year

Research grants
Note: March 1st deadline is for both the research grants and the release time. The October 1st deadline is only for research grants up to $8,000.
Objective: To encourage individual research and study by defraying research costs incurred by members of the CUPE 3903 bargaining unit.
Value: Research grants - up to $8,000
Release time course directorship grants - salary equivalent to one full-course directorship
Duration: One year
