Gender Issues in Management
Contributions Assignment 1

Return to Course Syllabus

Assignment  Respond to as many of the Waving Hand Exercises (sprinkled throughout the Learning Units) and those of other students as you can, sending your responses to the Discussion Group. Review your submissions and any notes you may have made to yourself as you progress through the course and
Write about half a page, double-spaced, describing the most interesting exchange you were involved in, with specific reference to gender issues in management. You get no marks for saying, "I learned a lot about gender issues" or "I learned that socialization is important in management," or for complaining about something you didn't like about the Discussion Group. You might write about where you disagreed with someone in an important way, or where you found yourself in agreement with someone and learned something from supporting a compatriot, or where you may have learned or taught something previously not known, something that makes an exchange stand out in your memory.

This is not the kind of writing that can I can grade. You don't get an "A" for being involved in a discussion that interests me and a "C" for being involved in one that perhaps I did not follow as closely. The papers themselves therefore will not be returned to you. Your mark on these assignments are for your contribution to the discussion in terms of the number of postings that you have done, but you must write something about your postings (this page) in order to qualify to earn your mark.

The purpose of having you write the page is to give you a chance to reflect briefly on what you are gaining from the experience of the Discussion Group. If you find you have nothing to say, you may need to work harder on your postings. This is a central part of the course and one of the most important learning tasks you will undertake.

Writing the Paper
Keep the formatting for this simple. You will be sending it by email to my personal email address.
Don't use fancy graphics, charts or pictures, just writing. You can send it as an attachment as long as it is in Microsoft Word, or you can just write it in the body of an email.

When sending the email please be sure that your email name identifies you easily (i.e.: includes your last and perhaps first name) and if not that you include your name right at the top of the email or even in the subject box so I can easily check you off as having submitted your work.
